Sunday, June 27th:
This morning we did not have to leave as early so, my dad, Ally, and I went swimming. Then we left and went to a memorial for the first terrorist attack in the United States. It was a bomb that blew up the federal building in Oklahoma. There were 168 that died, 19 were kids because there was a daycare center. That was cool, but sad too. One really interesting thing is, there was a pool of remembrance and on either side of that was to walls one said 9:01 and the other said 9:03.
The bombing happened at 9:02 so, 9:01 stood for innocence, and 9:03 stood for when the world would never be the same. Then we drove through Tulsa into Arkansas and into Missouri
We are in Branson, Missouri, for the night.
We also went to an outlet mall to get something really quick in Branson and Ally really wanted to get Buzz Lightyear, so we walked over to the Disney Store and she bought it with her own money. But, then we ended up getting stuck in the store because it was pouring rain!!
That is really all we went to... Oh Wait! We went to McDonald's! Haha! Ally really wanted to go there so we thought it was a good day.
P.S. At our hotel there are a bunch of fireflies!!!
Miles: 385
States went through: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri.
In 3 days we have been in 7 states!!!

The Pool of Remembrance
Each Chair represents 1 person who died.
Wow, Amy! I am loving your photo journal! I have always heard of Rt. 66 but didn't realize how much cool stuff it has. Now you've inspired me to want to follow in your footsteps some day.
ReplyDeleteI remember the Oklahoma City bombing. It was very sad. I've seen photos of the chairs before, but you added some images I haven't seen before. Thanks!
Oh ya, and I hope you got yourselves some french fries at your trip to McDonald's! :)
How neat! When I was at the Oklahoma Memorial, it had only happened less than a year before so they didn't have the wall, or the pool, or anything - just a chainlink fence with a lot of flowers, posters, etc. What an amazing experience!!... I can't believe how much you guys have done in only THREE days! This blog is too cool! I feel like I'm traveling with you!! :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteDear Amy,
ReplyDeleteYou are doing such a great job on this blog. It will be a great thing to review and put in your scrapbook!! I am remembering all of this when we were there. We will have to share pictures when you get here. That is quite an inspiring place. How about that big tree that lasted throughout the whole thing without being touched by the blast? I am so glad you got to see it. The picture I love the most that you sent is you peering into the pool of remembrance. Great picture. Love you and waiting for more...Say hi to the Benders. Love, Grandma
